Why should People Study Humanities?

  Some people are of the view that the study of humanities is a waste of time and it’s better to study STEM disciplines. Fortunately, there are people who believe that humanities are essential to study. There are two reasons why students should learn these academic disciplines at university and school.
   First of all, studying humanities is a way to feel connection between our past and present. Also, if we know our history, we can foresee our future. There are some patterns in social relationships. For example, if one country mobilizes and recruits forces, it means this country is going to began a war. Anyway, some events are unpredictable, but they have a real influence on people like natural disasters which are being studied by the specialists of STEM disciplines.
  Moreover, humanities are good teachers. They teach us how to deal with subjective, complex, imperfect information, how to consider more than one side of every issue, how to be creative. Every person broadens his or her outlook, changes his or her pattern of thinking in the educational process.
   Some specialists of STEM disciplines claim that every student should combine humanities with STEM disciplines. There is an example of a person who was good at both disciplines. Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was a Russian rocket scientist but he was interested in philosophy, also. He wrote a book called ‘The Will of the Universe’. Now people call him genius because he was a versatile person.
   In conclusion, I can say humanities and STEM disciplines are connected. The most important thing is that humanities are necessary as they blend us all together and allow us to grow as individuals and improve our society.
P.S. It will be wrong to close departments in the humanities and social science and focus on something more practical.
